Dublin Restaurants!

Best Places to Eat in Dublin

One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well!

Benito’s

This lovely restaurant is located in the heart of Dalkey, Co Dublin. This is an Italian restaurant with food to die for! It is a brisk 5 minute walk from the Dart station and there is many places to park around the restaurant. I had the small portion of Arbiatta to start which was divine. For my main I shared a pizza that contained the perfect balance of sauce and cheese. We shared a bottle of the house wine which was very smooth and complimented the food perfectly. It also happened to be my birthday and my brownie came out with sparklers on it along with complimentary prosecco for everyone at the table. The staff couldn’t have been nicer and the food came out quickly. The place was also very clean. Would very much recommend.

Critical Analysis 1.

In the first exercise we had to create our own privacy policy. I first looked at the reading and took note of the 5 rights outlined. I then choose my form of social media which was Twitter. I then googled other privacy policies and took note of the different structures. I then wrote out my privacy policy.

The next exercise was to create a LinkedIn account. I have previously set up a LinkedIn account for another module. I still found this exercise helpful to really spend time looking at their privacy policy and their settings and altering the setting to how I wanted it. I also updated my profile and connected with a few people I have recently encountered.

I personally struggled with the concept of creating your own privacy policy at first. I was unsure of how to format it, what to say and how long it should be. Thankfully after researching other privacy policies and by using the 5 rights outlined in the reading, I was able to decide on how I wanted my privacy policy to look.

I always knew applications had privacy policies, yet I never stopped to read them and understand what I was signing away to the companies. I always thought they were too long and boring. This exercise has helped me to understand the importance of privacy policies.

This task helped me to understand what I expect from different forms of social media and how to better protect my privacy. In writing out my own privacy policy I have come to realize what I expect and want to see. This will help me in the future as I will be a lot more careful in reading what personal details I am signing away and I will make sure to read all future privacy policies.

LinkedIn Account

I already had a LinkedIn account created from last semester, but this exercise gave me a change to edit my profile and update my accomplishments. I took the time to really think about what I had achieved in the past year. My CV shows employers that I am very hardworking and dedicated when it comes to something I enjoy doing. I love playing hockey and have achieved many awards from it which shows employers my dedication. My account also shows employers that I have been trusted in positions of power before through being hockey captain, a school Prefect and a school Ambassador.

Twitter’s Privacy Policy

About Twitter

You have a right to understand how this app works and what it is used for. This App is a platform that is open to the use of anyone in the world. It is a platform where people can post short paragraphs about what is going on anywhere in the world. The purpose of this app is to share information from about the world on specific topics. It is a place where people can connect over a shared love of music among many other things.

There is an age restriction in place. This means that only kids from the age of 12 and over can download the app. This is controlled by having to show a form of ID when creating an account for the app. If under the age of 16 users accounts will automatically sensor out unsuitable content.

Whenever anyone sets up an account on Twitter, the account will automatically be set to private. This ensures that only the user can decide who gets to decide who gets to their content.

This application is not to be used in a negative and harmful way. There are settings in place so that any cruelly intended tweet be removed almost immediately. If a user posts something that is intentionally cruel three times their account will be removed immediately, and they will no longer be able to sign up to Twitter.

Information App Collects

Users also have a right to know that the internet Once an account has been created on this platform the public has information of the username you are using and the name you are going by. If your account is on private that is all that the general public have access to unless you allow them to follow you. If your account is on public other Twitter users can see what you have posted and what you have retweeted.

Twitter has access to some of your activity, such as who you follow, what posts you have liked and what you search for. This helps Twitter to make follow suggestions and suggest items and pages you might also be interested in.

Photos and videos

Twitter has access to your profile pictures and any videos posted. Once your account is on private your profile picture won’t be shared anywhere, and neither will your pictures. However, if your account is on public other users can post your pictures to their account. If you wish for these photos to be taken down, you can simply report their picture, and someone will remove it.

You have a right to remove any photos you have uploaded including your profile picture. If you are on public and someone has saved and reposted your picture, if you delete your picture it will not be deleted for them.

Safety Security

Twitter has access to your information and what you use the app for. Twitter will not share any information gathered from your account with any other companies. Any data gathered about your profile will remain solely with Twitter.

If you feel you are in trouble with anything or anyone on twitter, there is a support centre that is available to talk to you at any time. It is in settings and once you send us your problem you should get a reply in 5-10 minutes. We will do our best to support you with whatever you need.

Privacy Policy Rationale

I wanted my privacy policy to be shorter, clearer and to the point. This would ensure that more people would read it as I personally have never read a privacy policy as I am too impatient. My wish for this privacy policy was to clarify that once your account was on private, your pictures would not be shared on other internet platforms. I included this as once I google searched my name and in the pictures was a profiler that I had on my twitter.

Another thing that I included was that the account will automatically be on private once you set it up. For me I found that on most apps it can be hard to find the button to make your account private. Also, people often forget that their account is on public, like me, and are then surprised to see their profiler on google images.

I added an age limit to the app as I don’t think that it is appropriate for young kids to have an account for themselves.

Learning to Screencast!

At first, I thought the exercise was that we had to upload a video to YouTube of ourselves! Thankfully after further reading of the assignment I discovered that was not the case.

The first thing I had to do was to download a software called screencast to my computer. This application allows one to record what they’re doing on their computer screen. It took around 5 minutes to download the software to my laptop. Once the application had downloaded a small rectangular box appeared on my screen with a red circle to begin my recording in the bottom left corner. I pressed the red button to begin recording and then I opened a new page on my browser. I then searched University College Dublin and clicked the Images option. We then had to upload the video to YouTube which I did by selecting the upload to YouTube button in the bottom right corner. This then brought me into YouTube where I could see my video had been posted to my account. I clicked the button that said edit video and then I proceeded to add music, a title and tags to my video! I finished by pressing upload video.

I personally felt that this task was not as challenging as creating a google map from the last Digital Badge. However, I struggled when it came to add the music to my video as I did not know where to find it.  I can really see the benefits of this application and I am happy to be made aware of the screencast application. I was already very familiar with YouTube and how to search for videos, but I have never ventured into the uploading and editing video side of it. This exercise has showed me that it is not as difficult as I imagined it would be.

I can see this being a useful tool for college as if a friend of mine is struggling with how to do something on her computer, I can record how to do it and send it on. This exercise has also showed me how easy it is to upload and edit a YouTube video and I plan on doing more research on editing videos as it has become such a popular median today.

At the start of this exercise I was unsure of what screencast was and how I was supposed to use it, so I google searched what it was. After reading a blog about it I was immediately interested and excited to use this tool! I was still a little unsure of how the editing of the video would go but I found it easy to create the video and upload it was no problem. I love how you can see the analytics of who views and likes your videos such as the age of the viewers and how long they spend on your page! I truly found the creative side to YouTube fascinating. I struggled with adding the music which made me quite frustrated, but I got there in the end. If I was to do it again, I would watch more YouTube videos on editing so that I could add text to my video.

Summary 2

The social media tools we looked at for this exercise included Pinterest, Pocket and Google My Maps. The first step for this Digital Badge was to create a Pinterest account. I have already had a Pinterest account from when I was younger. I have not used the website in ages, but I found it very useful when looking for inspiration for Halloween costumes and makeup tips. However, I never created a board when I was using the site, so I found the instructions helpful when it came to create a board of my own and uploading my own pins! I personally find this website is very useful for managing information that you find as you can create separate boards to file your information. This makes information easier to find and it looks a lot less messy.

I have never used or heard of Pocket before, so I was interested to see what the idea behind this website was. After investigating into what the function of the website was, I believe it to be a very useful website which I can see myself using often in the future. This website stores any site that you wish to save to read for later. I will find this extremely useful for when I am writing essays and I find a website that contains a lot of information. I can now save it to my Pocket account and not have to worry about losing all the information. This will really help me to manage my information better.

I have never had to create my own map before, and I did struggle at the start with the instructions as I did not see the google sheets that we had to download. Once I got the hang of it, I understood what I was doing but I did find all the steps very tedious. However, I can see how this site would be helpful as if I wanted to have a clear view of different locations.

I found the peer review very helpful as it was interesting to see what everyone would use the websites for. I also appreciate the comments people give me as it helps me to get a different perspective and people also comment on what I can improve on for the next video. I find that I look anywhere but the camera when talking and that is something I am going to work on for the next assignment.

I think I engaged well with this task and I can see myself using Pocket and Pinterest in the future for definite as they are very useful for finding information and storing information.

Summary

I have learnt a lot about blogs from this assignment! I did not realize how much time went into the upkeep of blogs. It took a while to figure out how to set up the website in the way I felt was the most appealing for viewers. I did have an issue with uploading a picture to the background and it took me a while to get the one I wanted. For someone to be a full-time blogger you must have an abundance of patience as technology can often be difficult to deal with and can crash from time to time. When this happens, it is so frustrating, and I have a newfound respect for full time bloggers.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
